GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Agriculture officials are working to "depopulate" chicken flocks at Herbruck's Poultry Ranch in Ionia County.

The facility is said to be dealing with highly-pathogenic avian influenza.

“It has been very smelly, lots of flies," an anonymous neighbor told WOOD-TV.

“Herbruck's is working closely with federal and state regulators and implementing the protocols and procedures we are required to follow as we disinfect our facilities," the farm said in a statement."We are working as safely and quickly as possible to resume normal operations at our facilities."

Avian flu has been found in poultry flocks in Newaygo, Ottawa, and Ionia counties. It has also been found in some cattle herds.

Herbruck's is the top egg producer in the state.
