Whitecaps beat Cubs in 25th home opener

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The West Michigan Whitecaps emerged victorious in a chilly opening to their 25th season.

The Whitecaps trailed the South Bend Cubs 1-0 before rallying to six runs. Jordan Pearce put West Michigan up 2-1 with a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning. Alexis Garcia blasted a solo home run to left field in the fifth, pushing the lead to 3-1.
