Suspect sought in Muskegon Humane Society break-in

MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Muskegon Township police are looking for the person who broke into the Muskegon Humane Society and stole a donation jar.

Executive Director Alexis Ogborn tells 24 Hour News 8 the crime happened between 11 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday at the shelter, located at 2640 Marquette Ave., north of Apple Avenue.

Ogborn says the thief shattered a double-glazed window to get into the building. Police say the suspect then reached in and took a donation jar just inside the window.

Ogborn says the jar contained about $100 in donations. She estimates it will cost about $500 to replace the window.

Ogborn says the suspect did not make into the shelter, which is currently full of pets in need of loving permanent homes.

Police say they have no suspects at this time, but they obtained possible forensic evidence related to the crime, which will be tested at the Michigan State Police crime lab.

Anyone with additional information in this case is encouraged to call the Muskegon Township Police Department at 231.777.1666 or Silent Observer at 231.72.CRIME.
