Spring storm knocks out power to thousands across Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thousands of Consumers Energy customers in West Michigan are without power as a spring storm brings strong winds, rain, snow and ice to the region.

As of 1 p.m. Sunday, more than 33,000 customers were without power across the state:

  • Allegan County: 1,737 outages
  • Calhoun County: 3,475 outages
  • Ionia County: 620 outages
  • Kalamazoo County: 636 outages
  • Kent County: 1,603 outages
  • Montcalm County: 374 outages
  • Muskegon County: 1,499 outages
  • Newaygo County: 514 outages
  • Ottawa County: 1,222 outages

Roger Morgenstern with Consumers Energy told 24 Hour News 8 that some areas may not see their power restored until Monday. Additional crews from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia have been requested to aid in power restoration.
