Kalamazoo man gets prison for child porn involving infant

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo man who had nude images of an 8-month-old infant on his cellphone will spend decades in federal prison.

A judge recently sentenced 26-year-old Adam Robert Hassell to 30 years in prison for producing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Hassell pleaded guilty in January to sexual exploitation of a child in January — a year after authorities discovered someone at Hassell’s IP address was sharing child pornography through file sharing software.

Several months later, investigators searched Hassell’s home and discovered lascivious images of the infant on the SD card of his cellphone. Hassell admitted to taking then deleting the images, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Investigators say Hassell also had sadistic images of the exploitation of other children.

Authorities say The mother of the infant confronted Hassell at his sentencing, describing the emotional and psychological toll the case had taken on her.

The woman described Hassell’s crime as “an act of evil and an act of terror to all mothers,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Once Hassell is released, he will spend 20 years on supervised release. He must also pay $5,100 in fees and register as a sex offender.
