Mayday call leads to Lake Michigan rescue by air

SAUGATUCK, Mich. (WOOD) — A boater is back on land after being plucked from the waters of Lake Michigan by a Coast Guard helicopter.

Coast Guard members received a mayday call from the man, asking if anyone could hear him. When the Coast Guard answered, he didn’t respond.

Soon after, the crew was alerted to a call the Grand Haven station took from a woman whose husband hadn’t returned home the night before. At that point, the Coast Guard launched its helicopter from Muskegon and boats from Holland and St. Joseph to search for the man.
