Applications for vacant GR commissioner seat available

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Applications for Grand Rapids 3rd Ward Commissioner position are now available.

David Allen left the position in June to focus on his job as the head of the Kent County Land Bank, leaving  the commission in need of finding someone to fill his seat.

Former Commissioner James White withdrew his name for consideration after a plan that Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and 3rd Ward  Commissioner Senita Lenear had floated to put him in Allen’s seat.

Information on applying and qualifications for the position can be found on the City of Grand Rapids’ website.  Applications are being accepted through 5 p.m. July 2, then the City  Commission will discuss and announce schedules for interviews and a  public hearing. A vote will be held at a commission meeting on July 10.

The selected candidate will be appointed to the position for the remainder of the term, which will be up in August of 2019.
