GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) â Grand Rapids police have determined the man who was found dead in a Mercy Health Saint Maryâs bathroom died of natural causes and that no crime occurred, but his family is angry that doctors discharged him before his death.
Family members say Albert Braylock, 63, should have stayed in doctors' care.
"To me, you just threw my brother away," his sister, Cathy Braylock, said Tuesday.
Staff at the Grand Rapids hospital found Albert Braylock's body in a bathroom Thursday and police were notified of the death at 9:45 a.m. Friday.
"I really want them (Mercy Health Saint Mary's) to be held accountable, not swept up under the rug," Cathy Braylock told 24 Hour News 8.
Because her brother was no longer a hospital patient at the time of his death, police had to investigate to determine if a crime had occurred.
Hospital officials didnât specify why Braylock was admitted, but family members told 24 Hour News 8 Tuesday that he had pneumonia and bronchitis. They said he was discharged because his insurance lapsed.
"Because of money," Cathy Braylock said. "Because of insurance he had to die? Why?"
Now, she wants to hold the hospital accountable.
