Whitecaps add roasted crickets to their menu

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Move over, Fifth Third burger: A new item on the West Michigan Whitecap’s menu is guaranteed to generate some buzz.

Fifth Third Ballpark began serving up roasted crickets dusted with coconut lime seasoning Wednesday.

The West Michigan Whitecaps are reassuring fans it’s safe and even nutritional to eat crickets. Each 3-ounce serving contains 11 grams of protein at 103 calories.

The Whitecaps say the delicacy will be available for the rest of the season at the “Wok Off” cart on the first base side of the ballpark concourse, as well as the Craft Clubhouse.

The minor league baseball team is known for its attention-grabbing grub. This year’s offerings include a makeshift volcano of onion rings, macaroni and cheese, hot wings and beer cheese; a cheddar-infused sausage wrapped in bacon; a double cheeseburger topped with a split brat, and the Fifth Third Burger.
