DALTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) â Investigators say the owner of a burned car that contained skeletal remains has been found alive.
The Muskegon County Sheriffâs Office says the ownerâs vehicle was not stolen, but itâs unclear how the burned-out car ended up off a two-track near the village of Lakewood Club.
Authorities say a passerby came across the burned vehicle Saturday near the intersection of E. Lakewood and Russell Roads in Dalton Township. The sheriffâs office says the remains were in the trunk.
Investigators went to the home of the vehicle's registered owner, located on Water Street near Walsh Road in Montague. The sheriffâs office says no one was inside the home at the time, but they came across another crime scene there.
Detectives Monday were not disclosing if there were any additional victims, but say the victim or victims were targeted and there is no additional danger to the public. So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
Authorities are not sure when the crimes took place, and have not yet identified the remains.
Montague police and Michigan State Police are also involved in the investigation.
