Kzoo Civic Theatre offers audio services for visually impaired

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre will soon be offering audio description services to help the visually impaired enjoy a night out at the theater.

Ann Marie Miller, coordinator of diversity and inclusion for the Kalamazoo Civic Theatre says the goal is to take down the barriers that separate anyone in the community from enjoying the show.

“The idea is for people who have visual impairments to have the opportunity to have a voice in their ear that provides information that’s key to the story,” Miller said. “They might miss some of those details if they can’t see it for themselves.”

Osman Koroma was born with cataracts that turned into glaucoma which left him blind at the age of 14. He now attends Western Michigan University and is still learning to live a new way of life.
