UP prison now under control after corrections officers regain housing unit

KINCHELOE, Mich. (WJMN) — Corrections officers say a three-prisoner fight in a level two housing unit took place at the Chippewa Correctional Facility in the Upper Peninsula on Sunday night.

Prison officers responded to the incident and deployed a taser on one of the prisoners involved in the fight.

By roughly 4 a.m. Monday, staff at the Chippewa Correctional Facility and members of the Michigan Department of Corrections Emergency Response Team regained control of the housing unit.
