Local superintendents skeptical of longer school year

State Superintendent Michael Rice is calling for the the mandatory number of school days for the 2021-2022 school year to be increased.

However, leaders in West Michigan say they aren't sure it would be an effective way to combat learning loss over the course of the pandemic.

Rockford Superintendent Michael Shibler says if teachers are being asked to work longer work years, they will need to be compensated for that.

Superintendent Kevin Polston of Godfrey-Lee Public Schools in Wyoming says educators can use alternatives to help students who have fallen behind.
