NWS: Blizzard warning takes effect at 4 p.m.

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Forecasters are calling it a "once in a generation" storm. Roughly 180 million Americans are under alert for cold, snow and wind - all during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

A blizzard warning, which spans from the Indiana border to the Mackinac Bridge and beyond, takes effect at 4 p.m.

The National Weather Service says Newaygo, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Barry, Van Buren and Kalamazoo will be among the affected counties.

Some areas could get up to two feet of snow. Wind gusts beyond 50 mph are also possible.
