GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - No school for public school students in Grand Rapids on Wednesday.

The decision was made ahead of a major storm that's expected to bring snow and ice.

"The decision to close schools is never taken lightly for our team, we know each day in the classroom is important to our scholars," Superintendent Leadriane Roby said in a statement.

Most schools in the region are closed today due to the incoming winter storm, including all schools in Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Barry and Ionia counties. Most schools in Kalamazoo, Muskegon, and Calhoun counties are also closed.
